Assessments and Surveys

Conservation Assessment

Every collection has unique preservation needs. A conservation assessment evaluates the overall health of a collection or facility, identifying environmental risks, storage concerns, handling practices, and preventive conservation priorities. You'll receive practical, prioritized recommendations to improve collections care, reduce future damage, and guide long-term preservation planning.

Pearl Preservation is a Certified CAP Collections Assessor.

Condition Assessment

Understanding an object's condition is essential for informed decision-making. We perform detailed condition assessments of individual objects or groups of objects, documenting their current state, identifying existing damage, and noting areas of concern. These reports support loans, exhibitions, insurance documentation, acquisitions, treatment planning, and long-term collections management.

This is not an appraisal or valuation assessment.

Collection Surveys

Collection surveys provide a broad overview of an entire or discrete collection, helping institutions and collectors understand what they have and where attention is needed most. We evaluate condition trends, preservation risks, storage needs, documentation, and collection priorities to identify patterns across the collection. Survey results help inform strategic planning, grant applications, budgeting, and preservation initiatives.
